Santoor

Zawash Shadmehr is a young Iranian musician and Santour player. Zawash studied music theory and was introduced to Radif (the Persian classical music repertoire) by the master Ardavan Kamkar. He focused on Iranian traditional music and learned to play several instruments including Santour, Setar, Piano, Guitar, and drums. He has toured Europe and regularly performed in countries such as France, Germany, England, Sweden, Netherlands, and Denmark.

In the spring of 2012, Zawash left home and immigrated to the United States, where he now calls Virginia his home. While continuing his work as a composer and a researcher, Zawash is teaching music and completed him Masters in Computer Science. He is one of the young and influential figures in traditional and instrumental Persian music in the Greater Washington DC metropolitan area. He has performed in several arenas and stages including Johns Hopkins, Maryland University, George Mason University, and Washington Folk Festival, just to name a few.
